Engaging, Learning and Cultivating Communities for BIPOC – #HRforAll August 2020 with Janine Dennis

Earlier this year, Cory and I started the #HRforAll Twitter chat. We’ve explored topics like How to Recover from the Coronavirus Pandemic, Voices of Influence in HR, and Finding, Developing, and Working as a Leaders. This month, we’re going to take a look at diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

More specifically, special guest Janine Dennis of Talent Think Innovations will join us to talk about Engaging, Learning, and Cultivating Communities for BIPOC at Work. Please join Cory, myself, and Janine August 11th at 1pm EST to talk through this topic.

Here’s what we’ll cover.

The Questions

  1. Welcome! Tell us where you are Tweeting from today?
  2. Who should own engagement, learning, and networking within an organization?
  3. Considering low career trajectories and income inequality within our organizations, what’s the first thing HR needs to do to make our organizations equitable?
  4. What types of programs or activities should we create to help advance the careers and inclusion of BIPOC at work?
  5. Many people think Employee Resource Groups can help engage employees, what do we need to keep in mind when forming or managing ERGs?
  6. When forming ERGs for BIPOC, should we look to include non-BIPOC? If so, what’s the best way to include those folks?
  7. What resources can or have helped you cultivate communities for BIPOC at work?

The Rules of a Twitter Chat

A Twitter chat is a LIVE chat that takes place on Twitter. People “gather” at a certain day and time to talk about a certain topic. There is usually one or two people who moderate or host the chat, who post questions to guide the conversation.

Questions are all marked with a Q and labeled with numbers to help everyone keep track of the flow of the conversation. People responding to questions should mark their answers with an A and the corresponding number.

For example, the moderators/ hosts will post “Q1” and everyone will answer with tweets marked “A1.”Additionally, all Tweets – both questions and answers – will use the hashtag #HRforAll. That’s how we’ll all stay connected on Twitter during the chat.
